Birth: Jul 1896 Gingkin, Cox's River, NSW, Australia Death: 20 Feb 1917 (age 20) Fargo Military Hospital, Rollestone, Wiltshire, England Cemetery or Memorial: Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England Lower Burragorang and Cox's River Honour Roll Father: John GRUNDY (8 Jul 1857 - 28 Mar 1928) Mother: Ann Jane PHAIR (1866 - 1930) Leslie was educated at Cox's River Public School. His occupation was Farmer when he enlisted at Camden in September 1916 and served in the 39th Battalion A.I.F. He left Sydney on the 'Benalla' 9 November 1916 and arrived in England January 1917. He was first cousin to (Lieutenant 6/226) Fred Ditzell who was killed in France in 1917. Private Leslie Charles Phair GRUNDY was admitted to hospital in England on 30 January with Influenza and again on the 2 February 1917 where he died from Broncho Pneumonia at 9am on the 20 February 1917 age 20. |
